My daughter has a 2014 Silverado with the 4.3 vortec engine with almost 60,000 miles. The problem is when she starts her truck both electric engine fans come on high which makes the engine sound like a jet engine running. There are no engine lights on and other than this the truck runs fine. Checked both fuses for the fans which were fuse number 12 and 13 in the fuse panel both not blown. Thought it could possibly be a fan relay but unsure where they are located (not in the fuse block) any help on where these are located or what else may be the problem is appreciated, daughter is in the Coast Guard and stationed in California so trying to help her out over the phone Thanks

could be the ect sensor . pcm will put fans on if it gets a incorrect input from the temp sensor on engine.
have codes read write them down.. then with a scan tool reset the codes.
see if the fans work normally.. if this does fix it then post codes so we can help because it may/will return.

both fans on is usually on a cold start a sensor type failure.
one fan on could be ac/def kept on..
on my 96 impala to check the fans you disconnect the engine coolant temp sensor ECT then both fans will run.. that is done to check the ac fan relays are working ..

It does not matter whether or not the air conditioning s on or off tried it both ways. Both fans just run. Daughter will be going to the local advanced auto parts tomorrow after work to see if there are any codes stored, but there are no check engine lights on but I will report back as soon as she gives me the info. Thought about just having her change the ECT sensor and see what happens, she is pretty mechanically inclined growing up around atv's and snowmobiles. Thanks for all the responses.

the ect will not throw code . both fans on , on cold start does indicate a sensor failure.

Yup scanned for codes today no codes stored, will be changing the engine coolant temp sensor, and we will see if that takes care of it.

I also stated to reset the PCM .. sometimes the scanner does not reveal all the codes ..depends on the scanner ability ..
what to do is do not remove old temp sensor just disconnect the engine mounted old sensor then plug in the new sensor not installed see it is works no both fans running ..

Well walked her through changing out the coolant temperature sensor, went well lost a little antifreeze but pretty straight forward. Drove truck about ten miles down to the car wash, got out at the car wash and no loud fan noise truck running at 210 degrees. Spoke with her a little while ago and she state that she thinks it is coming back on again quite a bit. Told her to call me tomorrow first thing after she starts truck to see if they come on or not so we'll see, hopefully resolved. How often should they be running on high, keeping in mind she lives in San Diego California.

on a cold start Hvac switch to off NO fans will come on .. if this is the case then it is fixed...
like I stated if the connector or sensor has an open in the connection the PCM will turn the fans both on ...
if its hot out Hvac on in traffic , both fans may come on that is normal..
on a truck I do not like electrical fans prefer mechanical , better cooling longer life more reliable..
210F is a bit high.. changing the sensor if too slow , air in system.. with a cold start remove the coolant pressure cap ,run engine till its at temp, rev a few times that will purge out the air ..
ELECTRIC fan operated engines do run hotter ..

Ok Thank you, I just spoke with her and when she went to work this morning and first started the truck engine temp was 160 and both fans came on with no ac on. Maybe air in system Ill have her do what you said to purge it.

both fans on a cold start again , something is messed up..
can be PCM/connectors at PCM..also the fan relays .. I think there are 3 relays . low/high speed controlling relays..
